DOUBLE BARREL TRISTAN'S CHOCOLATE ORANGE 🍫🍊 - an imperial stout aged for 9 months in a Heaven Hill bourbon barrel, then aged another 9 months in an orange bitters barrel. Further conditioned on fair trade organic cacao, ethically sourced from the Phillipines and The Dominican Republic.

This is the next release in the Temporal Void Series, an exploration of strong barrel-aged beers. Tristan's Chocolate Orange is the first of two bottles releasing Sunday, December 18th at noon at @containerbrewing. 14.75% abv. 500 bottles available with a limit of 4 per person. Please BYOBag - ideally cloth and reusable.

As with previous Void sales, this is a single day pop-up release. But this one's a bit special as it's a week before Christmas (!!) so we'll have some extra goodies for sale. A re-up of @ripplesbysam Temporal tie-dyes, two-bottle gift boxes (with your choice of bottles!), touques, stemless glasses, and some wooden pins, keychains, and coasters (stocking stuffers HELLO)

This beer is one of my favourites so far. You can probably tell I had fun with it. It's the first double-barrel-aged release from the Void Series!

When I saw some bitters barrels pop up through one of my barrel brokers I knew I needed to jump on it. I grabbed a couple - classic aromatic, one with sorghum, and a few orange bitters barrels - one is holding a very special mixed culture saison collaboration I'm excited to share with you next year. I had a feeling the orange bitters barrel would be perfect for a chocolate orange beer, so I had to go for it. I picked a barrel of stout that had strong bourbon character since I wanted it to shine through all the other things that would be going on. And boy, there is a lot going on.

For cacao I chose to pair a pretty classic fudge-y crop from the Philippines with a really unique cacao from The Dominican Republic. The Dominican cacao had notes of citrus that blend right in with the citrus of the orange barrel.

The result is a big beer that is chocolate-y, orange-y, bourbon-y and stout-y. It's a special beer for this special time of year!

Cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg, along with dark sugars. Dark brown colour, of course. The body is a bit light, but it's not bad. I think I avoided this because I'm not into chocolate orange but of course I don't really get much orange here so I'm happy.

Bottle pour at Farmhouse Fest 2023, pours a deep dark brown / black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out intense chocolate orange, booze, and bourbon barrels. Flavour is boozy, with lots of chocolate orange, booze, and gentle bourbon. Boozy and orangey, rather messy and lacking integration but pleasant enough. Good.

Poured from 330mL bottle @ Weathered 2023. Dark brown with minimal beige head. Lots of orange peel, dark chocolate, touch of alcohol heat. Quite nice.

330 ml bottle Pours black with almost no head. Aromas of dark chocolate, orange liqueur, soft bourbon and slick roasted malts. Flavors follow same with more orange peel and dark rich chocolate. ABV makes it a bit thin. Very good.
