3 Flowers IPA is a straw colored Rye IPA. The three flowers referred to are Citra, Cascade, and Chinook hops, which are cast into the brew liberally, and contribute a lovely citrusy, floral aroma and a firm yet balancing bitterness. Malted rye and flaked rye, gently added to the grist of this refreshing brew, bestow an engaging dry spiciness and luscious mouth feel upon the imbiber. Please feel free to have another.

Orangeish golden colour, small head. Aroma is fruity, floral, some mild toffee and caramel. Flavour is very similar with a nice spicy and herbal touch to the hoppiness as well. Mellow, but strong bitterness in the finish.

Bottle. It pours a dense, two-finger white head over an unclear orange-golden body. The aroma is quite yeasty, with pine cones and orange peel. Some white sugar-like notes. It’s quite dry on the palate, even though there’s a sugary touch to it. Bitter, resiny and orangey flavor. Some chalky yeast too. Full body and a nice carbonation. Lasting orangey finish with a nice bitterness and a good dash of malty sweetness. Quite decent this one, but too yeasty. 150228

12/10/11/8/11/9

Keg at Ballast Point Little Italy, 12/11/14. Lightly hazed golden blonde topped with a moderate off white swirl. Nose is floral, bitter orange, tangerine, grapefruit, straw. Taste comprises juicy hop tones, light pine, citric peel, straw, orange pith. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light hop wash. Ok IPA.

Bottle to pint glass. Aromas of fresh flower-grown meadow and slight orange. Dragonsnap flowers. Clear yellow with sustained white head. Flavor balances floral aroma and bready malt. Moderate yeast present. Moderate high bitterness acts as more of a distraction.

Bomber from the brewpub. Pour champagne bubbly gold with a slight creamy white head. It’s forest flowers, rye spice and mild caramel for aroma. Med body at least. Flavor is floral and rye spice with enough caramel to support a rather large amount of hop. Hop burn builds. Not NW harsh, but very hoppy and pretty bitter. Like rye. A lot.

On tap at City Beer, pours a hazy golden with a medium white head. Aroma brings out loads of flowers / floral hops, with a subtle touch of rye. Flavour brings out the best of rye and floral hops, probably more pronounced towards the rye in end of the palate. Very well-rounded with a very thin malt backing. Great stuff.
