Heresy is the holy grail of golden ale. Top-notch pale ale malt and Challenger hops commit the brew to spicy bitterness before Goldings set about delivering citrus and florals. This is resolute refreshment.

Cask at the Alma, Harwich. Poured a clear straw colour with a bubbly white head. The aroma is malt, light woody hop. The flavour is moderate to light bitter with a light dry malt light spice, light hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Handpull cask at the Cambridge Brewhouse. Light gold, clear as a bell, with a small ring of head and considerable lacing. Light but pleasant flowery aroma, with soft citrus notes. Taste is more engaging than I would have thought, and the hop more prominent: brushes of lemon curd on buttered toast follow to the mellow finish. A good cask golden ale, traditional to the core yet quite delightful.
