The California Common almost disappeared after prohibition as did the term Cismontane. Our interpretation of this style is a golden warm fermented lager with sufficient hop aroma. As a brewer and citizen of Cismontane California it is our obligation to produce a fine California Common.

Can at home from Freshfields in Croydon. Pours hazy gold with a white head. Aroma is grass, malt, peach and a little Sour note. Taste is butterscotch, toffee, malt and a little grass. Not too bad.

On 23rd May 2016 I visited the Rancho Santa Margarita home of Cismontane Brewing and had a very pleasant flight of six beers, this beer being one of them. Misty old gold with a wispy white head. Halfway between a flavourless lager and a flavourless ale. I might be being unfair because of the five heavy hitters it sat with on my flight, but it just seemed bland and boring to me. Scored objectively.

Pour is a cloudy copper with a small white head. Aroma is a decent bready malt with some notes of caramel. Flavor is a thin malt with a little vegetal which is not horrible just kind of odd. Finish is super dry with a clean almost non-existent remnant of anything left behind after the swallow. This was fine, nothing off about the beer it was just a little thin all around.

22 Oz bottle poured. Pours a bright orange color with almost no head. So these guys are from Rancho Santa Margarita. That even a real place? The answer is yes, I confirmed it on urban dictionary. Heavy yeast profile aroma. Flavor is light grassy, and big fruit. Easy drinking lager for sure. Pretty good stuff.

Sample at the Fat Heads Tap Takeover at Kraft House No. 5 on 07/30/2015. Clear copper-orange color with a medium white head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of grassy hops, fruit and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of herbal hops, bready malt and fruit. The finish is mildly bitter with a mildly hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle - clear dark gold - fairly lovely, kicking up a significant lace - medium sweet, toasty malt in the nose, lightly grassy hops, light estery fruitiness - flavor is somewhat estery, medium sweet, moderate toastiness to the malt character - a bit of acidity late before a mild hop bitterness finishes - it’s okay.

On tap at Stateside, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out herbal notes, some grass, and biscuity malt. Flavour is clean, with notes of corn, biscuity malt, light fruity sweetness and herbal hops. Quite a decent smooth, sweet lager. Good.
