Very much like a bitter pale ale, but this California Common is fermented with a lager yeast to create a crisp taste with fruity notes.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 6/18/2015. Pours slightly hazy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of lemon, pear, honey, cracker, toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, pear, honey, cracker, toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Moderate herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of honey, cracker, toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness/carbonation as well. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and creamy/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.6%. Overall this is a nice California common style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Bottle. A gusher, producing a huge, rocky, white head over a lighlty hazy yellowish-golden body. The aroma is on the fruity side, with some pale malts. Resiny, citrus peel notes. Itβs rather bitter on the palate, full to medium bodied and very effervescent. Dry too. Pale malts, resins and pine cones in the flavor, with a bitterness lasting for a good while. More a pale ale than a steam beer this one, but not spot on in that style either. Too effervescent and perhaps a tad dry. 141219
