500ml bottle. Jet black colour with small, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, dark beige head. Vinous, slightly alcoholic aroma, notes of blue grapes and dark berries, slightly chocolately basis, oaky overtones. Taste is vinous, minimally alcoholic, notes of red wine, blue grapes, dark berries, a tannic touch, hint of oak, a bitter-spicy touch of fruit parings; the moderately sweet chocolately basis gains more ground in the last third, supplanting the tart partitions of the red wine flavours. Warming alcoholic finish expands into deeper gullet regions.

Bottle shared at chriso’s pre-Christmas tasting. Label says 8.5%. Pours clear, black-brown with a frothy tan head. The aroma holds tangy dark malts, dark berries, mild cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavor with gooey, ripe and tangy berries, dark fruits, suggestions of something a little buggy and funky, a bit of chocolate, burnt wood, earth. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming and chewy on the finish, a little tannic, with notes of cocoa, roast, charred wood and earth, dried and leathery dark fruits. Pretty good.

Bottle shared at chriso’s winter tasting 8/12/2014. thick dark opaque back coloured pour with a fleeting light tan head. Aroma is coco nibs, soft choc, light berry, little brett funk on the nose as well. Flavour is composed of nutty chocolate, coco nibs, funky brett funk, pineapple, musty. Palate is medium full bodied, soft carbonation, spicy, tart edge. Linger coco and tart berry. A bit odd but it kinda works.

Bottle from Marketplace Alehouse and Deli, Doncaster. Clear, dark, reddy brown. Halo of tan head. Coffee. Vanilla. Light, roast coffee bean. Mostly sour cherry, raspberry, and woody, red wine vinous, though. Taste is tart dry. Palate is all that, which is fine if you’re ok with the tartness. I was expecting some richness that didn’t materialise. Same for the finish. Hard work by the end.

Opaque black beer, good tan head,. Palate is fairly light, crisp and semi dry. Mild dark malts, just a bare whisper of roast. Light and bitterish wood. Good rich red wine tang and red berry fruits. Touch of vanilla. Light dry finish. Pretty light and tasty and easy drinking for an IS.
