A new school testament to the tradition of brewing beer with grapes. It is a blend of 25% Santa Lucia highland Riesling from Mer Soleil Vineyard and 75% Pilsner from Cismontane. This beer is brewed entirely with Nelson Sauvin hops. Soured with Lactobacillus to enhance the natural grape acidity and fermented with a blend of wine and beer yeast. This process highlights the flavors that beer and wine have in common. The collaboration beer made by longtime friends Charlie Wagner and Evan Weinberg.

Draught at Stateside, Vancouver
Hazy deep blond color. Fruity, grapey aroma, light vinegar. The mouthfeel is not exactly sweet, but it’s soft, with low bitterness; you can feel the grapes, but it doesn’t have the kind of kick that other breweries like Montegioco have when making these crossovers.

Sampled during RBSG. From notes. Loads of dry grape, very champagne like. Heavy on the acidic side.

Bottled (500ml, ABM, BBE 12/2014)
Hazy yellow color, no head. Dry green apple, white wineous grapey aroma. Sweet, a pike of tartness. Light to medium bodied. Green apple, white wine, grainy pilsnery notes, light tropical fruityness. This blend works nicely. Refreshing, perhaps a bit tartness would make this even better.

On tap at Stateside Craft, pours a hazy golden orange with a tiny head. Aroma brings out lemon lime notes, with a touch of fruit. Flavour is rather bad, with light acidic citrusy notes and juiciness. Rather thin and apple juice-like. Not very complex or interesting, but still solid.

Draught, Stateside Craft.
Pale and hazy. Massive head died instantly. Has a vinous nose and taste, not surprisingly. Spicy, gin-like notes on the nose. I’m thinking some farmhouse thing. Nice pale malts, fruity white wine...odd and unique. The balance is really good, a nice marriage of wine & beer, owing to a lot of residual malt sweetness and Belgian yeast esters.

500ml bottle

Pours hazy yellow with a tiny head that disappears very quickly. Aroma of tropical fruity hops, vinous notes, grapefruit, spices, lactic yeastiness and tartness. Taste is vinous, juicy and fruity with some grapes, berries and malts. Finish is vinous, tartish and fruity. Quite vinous.

Aroma has soapy citrus, spices and grassy hops. Also grapefruit and oat porridge. Flavour is tart with citrus, grapefruit, white wine and some green apples. Too acidic for me and lemon is also too overwhelming here.

Hazy pale gold beer, small white head. Palate is light ad crisp and a little dry. Light lagerish malt. Light grapes and a little champagne like acid crispness. Light finish. Clean, crisp and drinkable and an intriguing hybrid beverage.
