A rich and well-balanced black IPA that combines all the hoppy characteristics of a traditional IPA with a fuller body and a hint of roasted malt.

Bottle from Oddbins. Dark brown body with amber highlights. Thin beige head. Light lacing. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, pine, plum and burnt toast. Flavour has more burnt, bitter qualities with a hoppy linger. Thin body with a watery texture. Soft fizz. Very astringent and dry - I like it.

Bottle from Oddbins, well duh! Appearance - opaque black with a nice fluffy head. Nose - dried peel, cake, some chocolate. Lemon curd in parts. Taste - does not live up to the nose. Most of the above aromas come across as dried at less interesting. There’s still citrus and cake notes, but they’re very astringent. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and then it falls into a long dry finish which is too dry for my palate. Overall - interesting nose, but the taste for me, was nowhere near the standard of most Alechemy beers.

500ml bottle from Oddbins Queensferry Street. Pours dark brown with a red tinge, thin beige head. Aromas of pine and light roast. Taste is more of the same, big piney hop bitterness, light roast coffee. Long finish. Good stuff.
