Black beer with a thin, bubbly off-white head. Flavour is light fruit, slightly tart (presumably the damsons.) When you first take a swig it’s just a run of the mill stout but the damson flavour, which is light but distinct and balanced just right, comes and gives it something slightly different. And it’s the damson which lingers too, though it’s not overpowering as it might have been if they’d got it wrong. Very nice.

On tap at What’s Brewing. A dense, beige, finger-thick head forms over a dark brown to black body. The aroma is roasted and lightly smoked, with brown sugar and caramel sauce. Was expecting some fruityness, or at least some dried fruits, but didn’t find any. It has a nice bitterness, it’s full-bodied and with a low level of carbonation, in a nice way. Dry. Roasted malts, caramel sauce and brown sugar in the lasting flavor. Some acidic notes in the very end. A nice one indeed, although not world class. 141101
