Draught at MacGregors. DArk brown with orange, fine head. Nose of chocolate, big licorice, orange, pine. Nice citrus and licorice flavor, chocolate, mint, light roast, as I like in the style. Good stuff. Light and crisp with solid bitterness.

On tap at High Street Grill in Mount Holly, NJ. Nose is a combo of roasted malts and piney hops. Upfront, flavor is bittersweet roasted malt and more pine hops. A unique contrast that seems to work nicely. Soft silky mouthfeel. Finish has notes of licorice and chocolate. Nicely done.

Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours deep brown with a medium beige head. The nose is earthy, skunky, juicy caramel, cherry cola, varnish and juicy pine. The taste is bitter-sweet, roasted malt, toast, earth, cocoa, pepper, coffee and mild bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Yup pretty skunky. Nice stuff.

Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell in London - thanks to Colin, my black IPA brother. Pours clear brown with a big tan head. Lightly aged burnt pine and toasted malts in the nose, some herbs, too. Light to medium sweet flavor with dirty pine, dry orange, burnt toast, light dusty cocoa. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Modest dry roast finish with more dusty cocoa and toasted pine. OK, but the bottle doesn’t seem super fresh.

Bottle split at CBC, 05/12/13, sourced at Wegmans Downington PA. Very dark mahogony brown with reddish hues and a big ole bubbly beige head. Nose is dank citric hops - a little skunky, light pine, floral notes, malt. Taste comprises dank hops, bitter grapefruit, tropical fruit medley, pine bite and light roast. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dank grassy hop bitterness in the finish. Respectable enough CDA.

Bottle tasting at Craft Clerkenwell. Thanks to Black IPA hound Colin. Clear deep red beer with a small pale tan head. Light dry palate, softish. Very light touch of dark malts. Mellow red berry fruits. Hops are pretty bitter and only have a light touch of that signature (but not cumpulsorary) black ipa pine. Dry finish with a stong bitter linger.
