Both Northern Monk and Saltaire are located amongst the industrial smoke stacks of West Yorkshire and it’s this industrial back drop that was the inspiration for this dark, rich smoked Porter. Saltaire brewed the Porter to a recipe created by the combined talents of each brewer – the rich smoked flavours result from the use of specially selected German smoked malts.

Fonefan 251014. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is smoked, chocolate, roasted malt. Flavour is roasted malt, hop, coffee, chocolate, smoked. Medium body. OK beer.

Bottle thanks to BenH. Appearance - dark brown to black. Thin fawn head. Nose - light smoke and chocolate. Taste - again, light smoke and it’s so well integrated with the chocolate which is very creamy. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy/smoky texture and a dry but balanced finish. Overall - yep great smoked porter.

Bottle at Ashton McCobb’s. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aromas of light smoke, light chocolate. Taste is smoke, more chocolate, bacon. Sweet, smoky finish.

Bottle. Frothy off-white fair mostly deminishng head. Dark red amber colour. (Almost Black). MOderate malty and light hoppy aroma. Rasin and smioked notes. Moderate bitter flavor. Rasin and smoked notes. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate. Not my favorite.

Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, smoke. Flavour is moderate sweet and light moderate bitter with a average duration, chocolate, smoke, roasted, sweet malt. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20141025]

Bottle. A clear-looking brown beer with a small, dense, beige head. The aroma has a quite pleasant smoke touch, with dried fruits, toffee and dark chocolate. It’s quite dry on the palate, full-bodied and with a pleasant carbonation level. Roasted malts, toffee and smoked malt in the flavor, ham hints and some bitterness. Lasting roasted and smoked finish. Quite nice this one, but nothing more. 141025
