Our Black IPA is brewed with Pale Ale, Munich and Naked Golden Oats to achieve a toasty malt backbone with a smooth mouthfeel. The dark ominous color comes from the Chocolate Malt and the de-husked highly roasted malt which allows us to achieve the black appearance without extracting the astringency from the tannins in the malt husk! We want the layers of hops to shine against this roasty malt backdrop. In the brewhouse we used multiple additions of Warrior, Citra, Chinook, Centennial and Amarillo to extract not only bitterness but the wonderful cornucopia of aromas and flavors of fresh citrus fruit, pine, fresh cut mint and fresh flowers they offer! Fermented with our house English Ale yeast strain and then dry-hopped two separate times in the fermentation tank with Centennial, Chinook and Amarillo, this dark ale is bursting with crisp clean bitterness and layers of wonderful American hop character!

Very dark brown with thin soapy head. Very hoppy with a slightly smokey roasted malt note throughout. Even some bitter chocolate in the aftertaste together with zesty hop oils.

12 ounce can from Meijer, 2/14/23. Very dark brown, large brown head, good retention. Aroma of roast, earth, cherry. Taste is roast, citrus, stone fruit. Moderate bitterness. A little tame but decent. More Black IPAs please. Are they on a comeback?

Dang, it taken me a while to figure it out, but finally I can say I’m not a huge fan of pink resin. A little goes a long way. This is a bit too heavy in that department for my taste.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home on the first night of December which seems crazy to me right now. Appearance is pitch black with a huge billowy off white head. Aroma of chocolate and hops. Taste is fantastic, relatively straight forward black IPA, just done exceptionally well. Highly recommended.

Can from Milk and Hops. Pours brown with a slight reddish hue, thick, creamy tan head, mostly coating lace. Pine, leafy type hops. Herbal notes. Chocolate and roast. Smooth feel. Mid-bitter with a nice dryness to it. Drinks very clean, lighter bodied. Goes down easy.

Pours mahogany tinged brown into a shaker. Off-white head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Cocoa and resin aromas. Medium bodied with dark caramel and dusty cocoa upfront turning to bitter resin in the lasting finish.
