draft in Fort Wayne - I’m told that this brew was made exclusively at the Fort Wayne location. They used their regular Broad Axe Stout, aged it on JD barrels, and added, I’m told, two fifths of JD straight to each barrel. I was also told that it’s approximately 10% alcohol though quite frankly I’m skeptical. I’m not seeing how their 5% stout gets to 10 by putting it in empty bourbon barrels and adding a couple fifths of bourbon. That’s what their brewer says though, so I’ve listed it as an imperial stout. Anyway... all of that said, this near black beer has an aroma mostly of bourbon. It tastes of roast malt and bourbon, but is surprisingly light. The palate is thin and the stout flavors bland. The bourbon comes through alright and isn’t overwhelming, but the base stout is a disappointment. Their regular stout used to be better than this brew, but my girlfriend had the stout the same night and said it too was thin and bland. I’d rate it lower but the bourbon notes are pretty good. Try again, GC.
