Cask at Borough Arms, Crewe. Pours almost black with a medium sized fawn head and good lacing. There’s malts and oats in the aroma, and these are to the fore again in the mouth. Where they are joined by milk chocolate and cola plus traces of liquorice and vanilla. After a while some dark fruits come through as well, and these are the mainstay of the finish. This is nice and easy drinking.

Virtually black with a creamy, beige head. Lovely aroma is heavy on the chocolate with an undertone of roasted oats. Taste is a little less enthralling and certainly not as intense—there’s a mild roasted with a faint berry tartness at the finish, both of which are hobbled though by a quite watery palate. Lacks enough chewiness to hold my attention. Not bad though.

Can 44 cl. Pours a seemingly clear, dark brown with an orange hue and a small, beige head. Soft toasted aroma with a hint of vanilla. Medium body, mellow roast and some lightly sweet molasses with next to no bitterness. Easy drinking. 190123

Bottled@Nolia Beer Festival 2017, Umeå. Pitch black colour with a mediumsized creamy white head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is roasted, chocolate, some toffee, coffee caramel and mild liquorice. Flavour is dried fruits, liquorice, chocolate, some toffee, mild toasted notes as well as some smooth floral notes. Smooth palate. Very creamy. Yum.

Can, big long lasting bubbly with lots of lacing, opaque pitch black colour, lots of chocolate, cocoa and cake maltiness with a bit of minerals, medium sweetness, light bitterness, quite smooth. Nice and satisfying.
