This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Georgy Zhukov, arguably one of the finest generals of World War II. Huge in body with strong flavors of espresso, chocolate and molasses, this unique iteration of Zhukov’s adds roasted hazelnuts and vanilla to impart even more complexity and depth of flavor to this massive, jet-black stout. In the immortal words of Marshal Zhukov himself, “Есть вещи в России, которые не являются, как они кажутся.”

650ml bottle from Beergium. Pours pitch black with a brown head. Aroma of roasty malts, earthiness, coffee, dark chocolate, hints of toasted nuts and espresso. Taste is sweetish, roasty and earthy with some toasted nuts, espresso and hints of vanilla. Finish is roasty, heavy and earthy with some dark chocolate, espresso and hints of licorice. Quite heavy and massive. Where's the vanilla?

(Bottle pour @ Himmeriget, Dec 16/17) Pours black with a small dark tan head. Aroma is pretty sweet, decent hit of roasted malt, dark caramel toasty nuts, chocolate, touches of vanilla, slightly murky coffee. Flavour is rather in the same vein, sweet dark malt with toffee/molasses, dark chocolate, decently bitter roasted malt with touches of coffee and toasted nuts, almost woody, soft to moderate vanilla, the sweetness tailing off somewhat at the finish thanks to pretty punchy roast, some hazelnut, cacao and soft coffee grounds. Medium body, slick, fairly soft carb with a little prickle. Good stuff, I think I would have enjoyed this more in isolation rather than directly alongside Cognac Zhukov and Derivation.

650ml bottle. Jet black colour with small, creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Intensey, roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, treacle, cautious nutty overtones. Taste is bitter, roasty dark malty, notes of coffee, burnt coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, treacle, hints of roasted hazelnut, a touch of liquorice, minimally rusty, metallic overtones; oily to viscous texture. Rich and intense, too bitter and rather burnt than roasty in parts.
