It’s a real doozy—a glorious 8.67% ABV Belgian-style ale, made with a blend of local wildflower honey, German and Austrian hops, and Pilsner malt, all finished with a Champagne yeast. That’s its public face, anyway. Between you and me, that's probably just beer talk for a secret extract made from Alan Rickman’s tears, Merce Cunningham’s sweat, and purified water used in the Pina Bausch production Nefes.

Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Huge head with excellent duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are malt, honey, grass, straw and hops. I would never have called this mead a mead but would have called this beer a beer :)

Bottle 0.75l, thanks to Rosenbergh. Colour is clear golden with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Belgian yeast, fruits, hops and some malts. This is more like highly carbonated weak Belgian ale than mead.

(Bottle, 0.75 l, courtesy of rosenbergh, 20130713) The beer poured deep golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had Belgian style yeast and fruitiness. Palate was medium bodied with high carbonation. Flavours were malts, fruitiness, sweetness, Belgian style yeast and low bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and fruity. Not a mead but a weak Belgian ale.

Associated Supermarket, Bushwick 750ml ($8): Pours hazy yellow orange color with a loose white head. Aroma is honey and yeast. Taste is slightly sweet. Tastes like a low alcohol Belgian ale, but it really isn’t. Body is really light. Honey taste throughout. Not very complex.

Bottle from New Beer. Frothy, thin, crystallized, eggshell head. Sticky lace. Hazy yellow/orange body. Orange, bitter greens, chalky, hef yeast scent. Tastes of lettuce, pretzels, herbs, banana, & saline. Active, microbeaded carbonation tries it’s best to fight through the grainy/Metamucil feel. Mellow alcohol. More like a lighter version of a Biere de Miel, then braggot.

Bottle pour at the brewery. Pours with a hazed golden body with a small white head that fades. Aromas are peppery, phenol, floral, really dry with distinct honey notes. Mild esters. Flavors are also very dry, bready, floral, fennel bulbs, and grainy. Lively bubbles and quite dry. Interesting Braggot.
