Since time immemorial, our ancestors have drunk beer. Beer is part of Danish culture and, even though the proud Vikings are best known for their sweet, honey mead, beer also played a major role in their everyday lives. The reason beer was so significant at the time is that water could be hazardous to health. So, they brewed beer to quench the thirst of both children and adults. Light, weak beer was for thirst. Dark, stronger beer was for pleasure. Today we make both and, like the Vikings, we must remember that beer is more for thirst than for consolation.
Ørbæk Tyr was inspired by the Viking god of war of the same name. Tyr sacrificed one of his arms when he had to shackle the Fenris Wolf with the unbreakable, enchanted fetter, Gleipnir. Like Tyr, this beer is dark and hot-blooded, so make sure the god of war doesn’t play a trick on you when you reach the bottom of the bottle.

50 cl bottle picked up at a Kvickly supermarket poured into a Trappist glass. Dark mahogany colour with a white cap on top. Sweet aroma with caramel malts, toasted bread, yeasts, and berries. The taste is sweet. Medium body - feels a bit thin for style and abv. Sweet finish with lingering dark fruits, yeasts, and a herbal, hoppy note. Fair, considering the price tag (16 DKK)

Sample (thanks fonefan!). Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, some spiciness, mild ripe fruits, dried fruits and raisins. Flavour is fruity, floral, wooden, some spicy tones with mild ripe fruits and some raisins with a bit plummy elements too. Nicely sweetish dry beer.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours an almost clear, dark amber with a small, beige head. Yeasty, toffeeish nose. Incredibly thin mouthfeel for the style and for 6,5%. Flavor is mostly metallic but nonen of the complex overripe fruit notes normally associated with a Dubbel. Bland as few. 101022

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy dark amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of malt and yeast, with touches of caramel and hints of fruit. Bitter, hoppy flavour with sweetish notes of fruit and caramel malt and sorush notes. Acidic and estery aftertaste. Reasonable.

Bottle, 6.5%. The aroma starts off with brown sugar and metal, but soon has vinegary notes. Not the first Ørbæk beer to smell like this. Hazy light chestnut colour. Ok stable tan head. The flavour is citric with metal notes. A little brown sugar. Unclean and possibly infected.
