Pours murky amber into a willi. White head with excellent retention recedes to coat surface. Sour smoke aromas. Thick with earthy smoke, tart berry and brown bread front to back. Medium length sweet honey finish.

Sample at the Portland tasting room. Clear dark orange color with a thin off-white head that recedes quickly to a sparse outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of smoked malt, fruit and yeast. Medium body with flavors of smoky malt, fruit, yeast and a bit of hops. The finish is smokey with a caramel malt and fruit ripe fruit aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

This has a pronounced smoke, but also some fairly sweet malts, and a phenolic sticky character. Ok with the smoke, but otherwise have no idea what they're trying to do here.

Beer Street, Brooklyn tap: pours amber with a white head. Aroma is bacon, malts, caramel. Taste is not at smoky but hets smoky at the finish. Taste is complex and pretty weird. Kind of candy like flavor in some sense. Nice and yeasty. Interesting.

On tap at Prohibition Pig, Waterbury, VT.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a moderately semi-dark hazy ruddy brown color with no head nor lacing (bar pour, so I’m not worried).
The smell started off with big malty, but not overly sweet, smokiness. A light contour of meatiness runs in to balance nicely.
The taste copies the aroma nicely adding a nice little kick of earthy to musty flavor coincides nice enough to balance nicely. Earthy malt in the aftertaste runs into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a light sessionable malty alcohol quality about it on my tongue.
Overall, nice Bier de Garde, I’d have again.

Tap at rattle couldn’t resist a Maine flight. Reddish copper pour. Nose is smoke and spice. Tate of soaked bread, some currants, rum spice, caramel and more smoke than I would have thought. Pleasant interesting brew.
