This India Pale Ale (IPA) is an aggressive wee beast that is dedicated to our friend Joseph Wood of Liberty Brewing and to all those hopheads who love drinking IPA day in, day out. Just as the term digital is all about zeroes and ones, the concept of IPA is all about malts and hops. Enjoy the rich golden malt backbone of Digital while you can... then feel it closing in as the fruity Motueka-grown hops dominate your palate and don’t ever fade away. IPA as it should be.

33cl Can at Kooltuintje. Hazy golden colour, white head. Aroma of fruit cocktail, citrus, sweat, light herbal, passion fruit. Flavour is light to medium sweet, fruity, lychee, sweat, passion fruit, biting hop bitterness from the NZ hop I’m not particularly fond of. Light bodied.

Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - golden and bright. Nice tight lacy head. Nose - pine, subtle grapefruit and dank cellars. Taste - resin and iron tablets. Then lemon pith. Maybe orange. Resin central. Palate - close to medium bodied with a dry tangy texture through the middle section. Dry resin finish. Overall - some fruit in there but well smothered by the resin unfortunately. Technically good as ingredients seem to be in the right proportion but not actually as good as that.

(Draught at Café Derat, Utrecht, 24 Feb 2017) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of tropical fruit, pineapple, mango and citrus. Fruity, hoppy taste with citrus, pineapple, mango, passion-fruit, biscuity malt and a balanced citric bitterness. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Tasty and refreshing. Nice one.

Can. Bright clear gold beer, small white head. Palate is light and has a mild fine carbonation. Light malts, mildly sweet. Whisper of grain and a little lager character. Mellow floral hop, a little citric peel. Light semi dry finish. Mild mild bitter linger. Nothing fundamentally wrong with this but it feels like a stingy hop bill which ends up with a quite recessed IPA that edges toward boring.

Can from the Station Tavern, Cambridge. Golden and slightly hazy. Slight ring of white head. Mango, pineapple and papaya aroma. Not in your face but not exactly in the background either. Taste is sweet and fruity with a balanced sour-bitter sitting on the back of the tongue through the finish. More papaya in the aftertaste. Body’s surprisingly watery. Verdict: pretty damn good, short of being amazing. A tasty workaday IPA.

330ml bottle on 12th March 2017 in the Bridge Tavern, a Fullers pub in Portsmouth. Golden pour, white head. Light grapefruit esters in the nose, full on grapefruit in the flavour, decent malty balance, liked it.

Draft glass @ Billie’s Bier Kafétaria. Hazy orange, huge creamy white head. Nose is overly yeasty combined with big USA hop profile + dry old orange peel. Taste is bitter dry old orange peel herbal, old yeast, overly bit on the yeast, mandarin, hop profile is way less in the taste, bit too sugary. Bit too dull, touch dull, sugar, orange peel, served bit too cold for me.

330ml bottle. Pours hazy golden with a smooth white head. Aroma: tropical fruit especially mandarins, pine. Taste: hoppy like the aroma, tropical fruits, mandarins, orange, pine, pith. Pleasant bitterness. Light-medium body. Very easy drinking.
