Since time immemorial, our ancestors have drunk beer. Beer is part of Danish culture and, even though the proud Vikings are best known for their sweet, honey mead, beer also played a major role in their everyday lives. The reason beer was so significant at the time is that water could be hazardous to health. So, they brewed beer to quench the thirst of both children and adults. Light, weak beer was for thirst. Dark, stronger beer was for pleasure. Today we make both and, like the Vikings, we must remember that beer is more for thirst than for consolation.

Ørbæk Orm comes from the old Danish word for serpent - ‘orm’. Mythology features accounts both of the Midgard Serpent and the viking ship Ormen Hin Lange, the enormous warship of the Viking king, Olav Tryggvason. So, a serpent is much more than just a creature that lives in the ground. It is a term for an unyielding character, the first to arrive on the field of battle.

50 cl bottle from SuperBrugsen poured in to a tulip glass. Hazy copper colour with a thin white head. Sweet aroma with banana, coriander, earthy spicy notes. The taste is sweet. Medium body. Slightly drying finish. Fine, a good display of Belgian yeast.

bottle from the new meny at toftegårds plads, valby. Beer selection there is very good for a supermarket, i found several founders stouts I have not tasted yet. Mild aroma of yeast and alcohol, i miss some more belgian notes going on, the alcohol aroma (similar to vodka) is too strong compared to the rest. Flavor is close enough to belgian blonde to be okay. sweet malty stuff with a mild yeasty note to it. A very easy and mild version of a blonde, so you could miss some of the belgian wild-ness you would expect in this style. Overall well done flavor though. easy drinking.

Big offwhite head. Hazy deep yellow body with visible particles. Spicy fruity aroma with licorice, toffee, and corn. Dry-sweet grainy strawy fruity taste with spicy herbal notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish fruity strawy grainy aftertaste with corn and spice notes. Nice and drinkable. Initially, I thought it was oxidized, but it turns out to be something closer to a Lithuanian malt flavour. Not sure what’s really been going on. (0.75l bottle, from SuperBrugsen Jellinge.)
