Bottle shared at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Cloudy yellow. Earthy aroma, spicy, fruity and a bit funky. Spicy flavor with light sweetness, yeast, earth, fruits and a dry alcoholic finish. Medium-bodied. Nice but a bit too alcoholic.

Whole orange and lemon nose, funk and marshmallow hints. Cloudy amber, thin head, full of particulates. Apricot and triple sec flavor, boozy. Clover honey is detectable when warm. Dried apricot and grapefruit peel on the back end. Drinks more like a triple than a saison.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy hay color ale with a large foamy head with minimal retention and not much lacing. Aroma consists of coriander and orange/lemon peel with quite a bit of residual sugar. Taste is also dominated by a mix of spices including coriander with some orange and lemon peel which are balanced against a huge malt backbone with quite a bit of residual sugar. Body is quite full with limited filtration and medium carbonation with no apparent alcohol. This beer is so big that it almost falls into the BSA category. I would probably have liked it better if it had traded some alcohol and sugar for additional attenuation which in turn would have provided more rooms for the spices to come out.

Aroma: The nose is yeast/bread, rice, funky notes, a little spice, and some citrus
Appearance: Pours a cloudy golden-orange color with a small white head and not much lace
Flavor: It tastes sweeter then the nose suggested, there is citrus and yeast, some funk, and a mild bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has a sticky and slightly creamy mouthfeel, and a light heat
Overall Impression: I found this one to be a quite solid Saison, though it didn't really feel 100% like a Saision. Anyway, this was really a quite good beer, and that's the bottom line.

12 oz. bottle from Julio’s Liquors. From the minute I popped the cap; I could smell the Belgian yeast. Also lots of yeast phenol, and zesty spice, fruity notes. The beer looks great as well. Dark cloudy orange color with plenty of lace and strong retention and lace. Had rings of lace around the glass as it emptied. High carbonation. Taste is lemon zest, peppercorn, Belgian yeast, some sweet fruit notes and some lingering alcohol as well. As the beer warm the sweetness is balanced by a zesty spice. Zesty fruit rind provides some needed bitterness. Very light “Barnyard” notes. Even with the elevated ABV, its REAL drinkable. Nice alcohol warming feeling. Overall, I’m buying a few more bottles to age and enjoy at a later date. Better than I was excepting. If you like Saison’s and Belgians, grab a 4 pack.

A hazed blonde saison with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, nice spiced malt with light kiwi pulp, banana and light cloves. In mouth, a nice sweet saison with ripe bananas, light ginger and maple notes, warming alcohol. On tap at Sunset Grill, July 15, 2012.

Pours hazy golden amber with a slight head. Smells a bit earthy. lMed body. Has an earthy tripel like flavor with a fair amount of fruit sour. Finishes peppery barnyard. Quite nice.

Total Wine, Fairfax 12oz ($4.50): Pours a cloudy yellow with a white head. Looks like a saison. Smells like a saison: more hops, more spices, and a noticeable malt backbone, along with a hefty dose of farmhouse funk. Taste is much the same. I want to first point out that the alcohol was very well covered. Taste is somewhat sharp. I think that the pepper and the hops work well together. Malt backbone is heavier than most saisons, but I wouldn’t guess that the alcohol content was so high. So basically, this was a lot easier drinking than it perhaps should be. This is for sure an interesting take on one of my favourite styles.
