Introduced in 1963 by the Baltimore, Maryland-based National Brewing Company, Colt 45 was named in honor of running back Jerry Hill, who was #45 on the 1963 Baltimore Colts football team. Through high-profile partnerships with actor Billy Dee Williams and comedian Redd Foxx — who both appeared in radio, print, and TV advertisements – Colt 45 established itself as the premier malt liquor beverage by the early 1970s.

Can. I remember the old black and white commercials when I was a little kid with a dude at a table and bulls, sharks and other things around him in different commercials while a cool song played in the background. Malt liquor itself is not so good.

Bottle 0,95ltr: Clear golden colored brew with an very faint bitter taste and its very smoothly sweet. I don’t if "It works every time", but i like it somehow.

16oz can. Not that bad really. I guess the lower alcohol keeps it reasonably drinkable. OK...the aroma is bad. But still has a lot of malt character. A pretty solid macro malt liquor.

It's a malt liquor, what did you expect, the naysayers? Back in the day Colt 45 was out in front of the other brewers, a guilty pleasure, today the abv is below the average IPA. No matter. I finally found a 16 oz can at Half Time to belatedly taste. No glass, no paper bag this time. I have a drink. Sweet malt, grain, water, a bare touch of citrus and plowed field. A good tasting malt liquor, actually tastes like beer. Now, if they would only kick the abv up to 7.5% or so, you might really have something here.

Pours amber with a huge white head. Aroma of acerbic rice malt. Taste has watery rice malt, carbonic flavor. Palate has lingering acerbic rice. Eh.

24 ounce can into lager glass, best before 8/27/2018. Pours crystal clear medium golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness. A bit of fruity aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with pale malt/corn and mild earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness. Very mild herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness of pale malt/corn and mild earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance; and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finish. Very clean on lager flavors, with minimal fruity notes present. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Minimal warming alcohol for 5.6%. Overall this is a good malt liquor. All around nice robustness of pale malt/corn and mild earthy hop flavors; smooth, crisp, clean, and pretty refreshing to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Very clean and nicely rich barley/grain flavors and mild earthy hop balance. Not overdone on the corn adjuncts at all. A nicely enjoyable offering. Well made and spot on style example.
