[June 2022] On its day, as good a traditional cask bitter as you will find. Pours a lovely looking clear amber with a creamy white head and a soft fruit malt and slightly floral aroma. Smooth, fruity, malty and a little nutty with a nice English floral bitterness in the finish

Cask at Salopian Bar, Shrewsbury. Pours “bitter brown” with a small off-white head. Not much of an aroma – just some generic fruitiness. In the mouth it is bitter overall, but with some sweet undertones. Malts and hops vie for supremacy in the flavour along with some hints of marmalade. Later on citrus comes into play as well, plus traces of lemon and cola. This is OK, but rather boring.

Handpull cask at the Oak, Oswestry. Amber golden brown, clear with a decent-sized whitish head. Big floral aroma, some caramel, some bitter orange peel. Sweet initial taste, followed by a light hoppy bitterness. More bitterness in the long finish with more toffee and a bit of stone fruit. Very good.
