Devil’s Backbone is full bodied and full flavoured like a mellow autumnal day with a hint of chocolate thrown in.

Keg @ Furey’s Bar, Sligo [140514]
Dark amber, hazy, thin white head
Aroma of soft cereal, some hay
Taste of sweet caramel malts, cereal, dab of bitter chocolate which I don’t think quite works in this, some orange zest, soft fruity malts
Palate - soft carb, medium body, fairly oily. Finish as main flavour
Overall - More interesting than other Irish amber ales I’ve tried even if a bit unbalanced in flavour

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a hazy amber with a huge and frothy head with an amazing retention. Toasted nutty aroma, a little nuts in there too. Medium body, dry caramel character, again rather nutty with a solidly hoppy finish. Good balance between malt and hops here. 220214
