24th March 2016: cask third of a pint in a Shrewsbury Wetherspoons. Dark as the name suggests, it’s black, the head a full tanned affair. Decent malt domination with coffee notes to the fore in both the nose and taste: liked it.

Cask at the Tilly Shilling (JDW), Farnborough. Glossy black with a loose beige head; aroma of coffee grounds; sweet, fruity, licorice taste with a touch of salt; then a dry finish with some crisp grassy hops. Better than I was expecting.
