Deep and very hazy amber and light brown coloured body with a larger, three to four centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of light cream, some subdued malts with nuts and toffee and a dose of grain and a touch of sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive toffee and light grain with a touch of caramel, nuts, earth and a lightly toasted flavour with some grain and light spice flavours, but quite bitter and pungent - but more from the malt and alcohol than from anything else. Aftertaste shows more of the malt and creamy, lactose notes than spices, grain or yeasts, but the bitterness is strong with a dose of light toffee and nuts and a bit of sweetness is all around the fringes. Overall, an interesting and flavourful beer, but just not really in terms and context of the style - this is a bit too mild and subdued given that there is a lot of malt, bitterness and grain, but not much of a complexity - this is fairly mundane and easy-drinking. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Costco in Fairfax, Virginia on 16-October-2017 (my oldest daughter's fifth birthday) for US$29,99/case by my hockey teammate, sampled at home in Washington on 11-June-2018 - Thanks James!

Brewed at Gordon Biersch. Chestnut, has a nice sweet brown sugar note, this has a mellow sweetness, light brown sugar, clean, good basic example.
