Heavenly Porter is a robust porter blended and aged with Heaven Hill old style bourbon. Distilled in the heart of bourbon country Kentucky since 1788, charcoal filtered to make a smooth and mellow whiskey. The beer is deep brown with a reddish tinge in colour thanks to the carefull blend of eight malts which give a slightly sweet aroma and a smooth initial taste and medium body. As the journey continues the slight warmth of the bourbon becomes evident and follows the beer down leaving you with a dryness in the mouth and warmness in your belly.

Keg at Southern, Edinburgh, Saturday 19th March 2016 in the company of Dad and Barry. Lovely roastiness, some vanilla, some soft squidgy caramel, lovely nose. In the mouth this is a tad disappointing, milky, it’s creamy it’s nice but it’s a bit thin and lacking. Ok. A8 A4 T5 P3 Ov12 3.2

Cask @ Craft Beer Company, Covent Garden, London. Clear, darker red with next to no head. Has a soapy roasted malt aroma and taste, but fairly smooth tasting for it. Has a small sweetness running throughout its character.

Craft Clerkenwell. Cask - thanks to Ray. Clear dark amber - brown beer, good pale tan head. Smooth palate, modest carbonation. Smooth and mild dark mats. A general tang that may be malt or bourbon derived or both! Mild bourbon, touch of vanilla. Finishes smooth. A pretty mild.porter with a mellow bourbon twist.

Cask (Red House, Newcastle) - Dark brown in colour. Malt, chocolate and some hints of whisky in the aroma. Chocolate, roasted malt and toffee can be detected in the taste. Nice, but not as good as I was expecting.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours clear dark brown, pale tan head. Light roast and toffee aromas. Dried fruit sweetness on the taste, little yeasty. Where’s the bourbon? Hiding at the back is where. Subtle, you might say. Bit thin on the finish. OK.
