1861 IPA with New Zealand hops.

A unique blend of pale malts and exotically fruity New Zealand hops.
This smooth yet bitter East India pale ale was originally from an 1860’s London brewery brought back to life with a new twist.

Purchased this from ’Jacks’ Westholme Stores Londis shop, Goring-on-Thames 28.06.13 consumed outside Frank (camper) at Holycombe campsite, Whichford, nr Shipston-on Stour the same day. Pours hazy gold with white head. Fruity nose, little bit of bile on aroma. Quite soft in mouth, initially I wasn’t a fan of this, too sweet, lacks a real bite and bitterness, however it grows and there is a little dryness. I wish it could have been half as good as the Kernel I’ve just had but sadly it lingers some way back. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov11 2.9

50cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. A crystal clear, plae amber pour with a ring of white head; some pleasant kiwi fruit and gooseberries on the nose; but a rather unexpected taste, some tropical fruit certainly, but also exceedingly dry, with a light but rasping bitterness. Different, and not unpleasant, but rather unbalanced, and with a slight alcohol burn to finish.

Bottle at a ChrisO tasting, London. Pours clear yellow with a light, frothy head. Light tangy citrus on the nose, lime and lemon. Medium sweet flavor with tight, doughy bread, light lemon, hay. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Clean finish, some faint sticky grass, pale malts, hay, light dough. Very decent, good balance.

Bottle at Chriso - 25/09/12. Very lightly hazed dark yellow/orange. Nose comprised citrus tones, hops and a little pissyness. Taste follows with light tropical fruit flavours, more citrus, background hops. Medium bodied but a little thin and wet for 6.6% ABV. Felt a bit short changed by this one and was distinctly ’whelmed’!
