This is an exploration of top-fermented beers from Northern France and Belgium, traditionally brewed in the spring and matured during the summer for use as payment to the farm hands during harvest.
Using four malts and French and Polish hops, Torp’s flavours are mixed together to produce a complexity spurred on by the earthy Belgian yeast propagated in the brewery. It has the colour of four-month weathered copper and is an excellent beer for contemplation. The name ‘Torp‘ is actually Swedish for Croft.

Bottle 330ml. @ [ (chriso Pre-GBBF Shindig) by chriso - London ].Unclear light to medium orange amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, berry, tart, marzipan. Flavour is moderate sweet and light acidic with a average to long duration, tart, caramel. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Bottled@SBWF2013. Deep amber colour, small white head. Aroma is grass, fruits, wood, some toffee and mild yeastiness. Flavour is fruity, floral, toasted and slightly wooden. Also some mild herbal notes towards the finish. A bit thin in the palate (especially for being 7 %). As it got to warm up there were also some slight sulphury notes.

Bottle at ChrisO’s Great and Powerful Pre-GBBF Tasting - Are You Scottish Edition (London, 2013). Pours clear, golden-brown with a bubbly white froth. Nose holds drain cleaner and ripe fruits. Light to medium sweet flavor with lots of tangy, semi-ripe fruits, golden raisins. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Tangy finish with plenty more cleaning product character. Not good.

ChrisO’s Pre GBBF ’Are You Scottish?’ tasting. Light haze on this amber beer, residual white head. Light palate, minerally crisp and dry. Lemony sharpness and sournesss. A little floralness. Dried fruits, Finishes softish and semi dry. Not sure if this was what was intended but it’s passable!

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013. Thanks to Ken. Aroma is light vinegar and green apple + some cara mat sweetness. Hazed orange brown pour. Flavour is more green apple, tangy, some tart. Perhaps infected?

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013. It pours hazy golden amber with a small white head. The nose is sweet butterscotch, apple brandy, tangy dried fruit, vinous, wet wood and brown bread. The taste is sour, dark fruit, tart dried berry, earth, white grape, wood and light bitterness. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Hard to rate as I doubt the sour element is intentional. OK for what it is.
