Sampled on cask at the brewpub this beer poured a black color with a small creamy dark tan head that left good lacing. The aroma was chocolate, cinnamon and hot peppers. The flavor was chocolate, cinnamon and hot peppers. Very long finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth. Well done.

This beer has a stereotype that preceedes it. I was very excited about tasting this brew. Very little aroma. Just clean and crisp. Lacks the typical roasty aromas that you would associate with stouts or porters. Very dark and not too hazy. No head, just a tea froth for a head. Good example of what a dark beer should look like. Well, I’ve never tasted pepper in a beer, tho I’ve seen others describe it in beers that I’ve tasted. The pepper is overwhelming and this stuff is loaded with spicy hot character. Hot spicy palate that builds with each swig. Quite interesting and enjoyable if you like hot spice. Fun and my eyes are watering. After a few sips I need to clear my throat. Hot pepper city, in a good way. Some dark chocolate bitterness is there in the background. Barely any carbonation. Overall, I was really impressed with this beer. Tho delicious, I’d probably stick to just one big mug for fear of how it’s going to come out on the other side. Finish is simply sweet heat.
