Overall - It’s a strange impy with the ginger but I like it a lot

33cl bottle from The Bottle Shop, Canterbury. Black beer with a thin lasting tan head. Ginger on the aroma no doubt. Some intense choc and coffee behind it on the aroma. Lots of ginger in the flavour that then softens into a lot of choc and coffee. The ginger is ok. It’s an ok beer. Fine. Nothing particularly special out there. The ginger isn’t maybe as defined as I might like. Some hot bitterness on finish. Some ginger biscuit comes through. OK.

Bottle at Euston Tap. It pours opaque dark brown, with a medium tan head. The nose is big on the ginger, roasted malt, smoke, dark fruit, berry, liquorice and wood. The taste is dark fruit, berry, spice, ginger cake, wood, roasted malt, caramel, charcoal and cacao. Medium-full body, moderate carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Interesting, flavoursome and well balanced. Delicious!

Bottle at the Euston Tap, London, shared with Thomas. Pours oily, brown-black with a fine, beige head. Beautiful ginger and roasted cocoa nose. Big sweet flavour, tons of ginger, some good roast malts, sturdy cocoa, mild earth. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Mild warmth to finish, lots of ginger, some chocolate, background roasted malts. I love when chocolate and ginger come together well, and they come together very well here.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; pours almost black, strong coco cola aroma, ginger biscuit taste, slight chocolate, quite dry, metallic aftertaste don’t feel the high ABV, good beer will have again.

330ml bottle. Pours black with a thin head. Aroma is warm ginger, roast and cheap cola. Taste has dark berries to start and a yeasty ginger finish. A little flat.

Bottle. Opaque brown - black beer, just a few residual tan bubbles for a head. Fresh palate with mild fine carbonation. Dark malts entertain sweetish ginger cake. A touch of subtle red fruits are followed by a mild dark malt roast bitterness. Finishes with more sweetish ginger tang. Not sure I can taste any Rum Barrel here - this is probably the straight version? Would love to taste the BA version. Nice beer - very tasty and drinks very easy!
