Pour from a bottle @ BeerFes Yokohama, September 17th, 2017. I think this was leftover from The International Beer Cup 2017, held at the same location during previous days. Nice golden amber pour. Not very carbonated, with a fresh hop nose, resiny, tropical. Tastes clean. Nice tropics and good hop strenghth there. Tropical hoppy DIPA at its best. Good one. Tasty.

Crisp copper and bronze coloured body with a nice, three centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of grassy hops, a good deal of earthier malts, a hint of citrus and some alcohol notes. Medium-bodied; Earthy malt flavours with a good deal of cardboard, some alcohol and grain with grasses and only a touch of hops, mostly from the staler side of things without much alpha acids at all. Aftertaste shows more of the earthier and malt side of things instead of any hops and pungency, but some of the alcohol and toffee/caramelised sugars come through. Overall, an interesting beer that shows malt, alcohol and caramel, but not as much hops as I’d expect for the style and perhaps a bit too little for this to be categorised in this style, even here in the East. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from City’Super! at One IFC in the IFC Mall in Hong Kong [island] on 29-July-2017 for HK$30,00 sampled in my hotel room here in Admiralty, Hong Kong [island] on 04-August-2017.

Spritziger, vollmundig hopfiger Antrunk. Dunkle Getreidenoten, wenig Alkohol. Dieser steigert sich zum Mittelteil, der Hopfen wird trocken, verliert aber nichts von seiner Intensität. Bitter, gut. 10/11/11/12//11

On tap at the Roundhouse, HK. Floral sweetish body. Great fruity hops on a smooth and not too sweetish body. Highly drinkable, fresh and smooth. Round and moderate bitter aftertaste with smooth and fresh hops and sweetish malt. Nice.

Hazy Amber color. The nose is way too malty wit some off putting characteristics. Malty unbalanced directionless. Nothing too positive

Tap at Roundhouse - thought I'd rated this already. Dark almost opaque iron rust-colored pour. Aroma is very malty with a bit of fruity hops. Taste is very bitter with some fruit flavor hops - peach and mango. Very malty too to balance. Lasting bitterness with a little boozy warmth. Not bad at all but a bit muddled. Updated Feb 2022 after countless tastings. Surprised I was so harsh in 2015. This is the original HK DIPA, and I appreciate its more west coast-leanings. While the recipe has changed over the years, it remains very very solid. I think it’s gotten less malty and metallic and a bit more tropical in its hop profile but I could be wrong. Always good.
