We first brewed a dark mild with Omnipollo in March 2024 at their church in Stockholm, named Gordon’s Comfort Mild. Although Omnipollo are known for their delicious fruit, pastry, hoppy and modern beers, there’s a love and interest in delving into historic British beer styles. The UK is steeped in tradition when it comes to its brewing history and pub culture. Something to be proud of. It’s something we truly love and are trying to harness here at Newbarns.

Aaanyhoo, later in 2024 they re-brewed the mild and called it Emma’s Winter Mild. So we felt it was time to brew it at ours and named it Henok’s Mild. The first batch we brewed was cask only, and a handful of kegs that made their way over to Stockholm.

This mild is pretty dark, super comforting, very moreish and is now available right in time for the change of seasons.

Can at home picked up from HOTM. A clear mahogany brown coloured pour with a lasting fine magnolia head. Aroma is creamy nuts, hazzelnut, lactose, dried fruits, raisin, vanilla, brown sugars, Flavour is composed of semi sweet, burnt sugars, butterscotch, mayard sugars, bitter burnt sugars, bread and butter pudding. Palate is semi sweet, creamy rounded, moderate carbonation. Pretty tasty, but tastes like it has some adjunct.

440ml can. Pours a very dark brown almost black, with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, biscuit, and roast malts. Taste is quite rich for the strength, lots of chocolate, very biscuity, some roast too, a little caramel, somewhat sweet and creamy but with a mild coffee bitterness. Medium bodied. A wonderful Mild, easily among the best I've had of the style.

Cast at The Pocket, Canonbury. 25/10/2025. Pours deepest brown with beige foam. Rich with dark choc, coffee, nutty. Delicious, although closer to milk stout territory for me.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Dark brown body with a thin beige head that holds well. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of blackcurrant and roasted malt. Flavour of blueberry and woody malt. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. A subtle and well balanced beer.
