This ale poured a deep red colour with a big tan coloured, soapy head. No lacing. To the nose there are scents of ripe fruit, brown sugar, beef gravy and leather. First sip was flavourful and a little sweet with tastes of tea, grass and ripe fruit. Finish is slightly bitter with the tea flavour lingering.

12oz bottle from ABC poured into a shaker. Pours a dark nut brown with about 1 finger of light tan head. Aroma of nuts, berries, a little chocolate and a little caramel. Taste is medium-light bitter. Taste of nuts, cereal and some slight floral hops. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. I will drink this one again.

Interesting, home brew like red ale. Nice head, creamy beige, pitted with long lacing, color is reddish, a bit cola like. Aroma is worty and sweet with toffee malts, leafy hops. Flvaor is balanced with toffee toasty malts, moderate bitterness, under-stated tobacco hop flavors. Medium body.

As far as amber ales go, this one ain’t too bad - a sturdy malt base with some flavors of biscuit, toasted bread, and toffee - moderate, herbal hoppiness swells from under that, complimenting the semi-dry finish - a touch of tanginess on the tail end - nothing spectacular, but a solid, sessionable beer.

12oz bottle pours ruby red – amber with weak off white head. The first sense of the aroma brings about a flash of English barleywine notes followed by a moment of chewy malts mixing with prunes, grapes and then heading toward a touch of roasty and crystal malts. The taste begins with malts, crystal malt sweetness, a touch of pine hops and a slight toffee note. It evens out and thins out toward the finish with a modest up welling of dark fruitiness. It tastes like a little barleywine.

12 oz. bottle, $1.79 from loose bottle rack. Hoppy smell comes right out of the bottle as I pop the cap. Pours a solid reddish-brown with a big tan head that I can see dropping away. Taste is pretty standard for the style, though. Extra malts seem lend itself to a touch of phenol. Hops are there, but the beer is still a touch too sweet for my taste.

A reddish brown ale with a thick moka head. Nice nutty caramel malt in aroma, with light restrained British hops. In mouth, a nice nutty malt with herbal notes, nice light hopping, very quaffable, even more than a year in the cellar. Bottle from mix 12-pack, Halftime, summer 2008.

Sample at AleFest Columbus (06/27/09): This beer is a clear reddish-amber color with a thin off-white head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Mild caramel malt aroma with a touch of hops. Light body with bready malt, caramel and mild hops flavors. The finish is sweet and malty with a short lightly hopped aftertaste. Straightforward and average overall.
