Cask at The Blue Blazer. 19/11/12. Pours clear amber with a thin off-white head. Aromas were earthy, soil and pumpkin. Taste is more soup than beer. Light sweetness but loads of pumpkin. Surprisingly thin for the strength. Not my kind of thing at all.

Tasting at ChrisOs. Hazy amber beer, little white head. Palate is light and a little dry. Sweetish malt. Generic fruits (not readily identifiable as pumpkin). A little piney hop in good balance. Finishes semi dry with a slightly earthy bitterness. Interesting.

Bottle shared at The Kernel, London - many thanks to BenH for sending this bottle South! Pours clearish, amber-gold with a tight, off-white cream head. Toasty malt nose, light earth, hints of fruits and autumnal vegetables. Medium sweet flavor with some darkened citrus, light pine, earth. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Toasty brown bread finish with mild piney hops, earth and hints of brown sugar. Not particularly pumpkiny, but a decent ale nonetheless.

Bottle thanks to Leighton via BenH. It pours hazy amber with a thick off-white head. The nose is pumpkin, vegetal, baked pineapple, alcohol, light sweetness and earth. The taste has less pumpkin than the nose, nice bitterness, some alcohol warmth, wood, leaf, metal, spice and earth with a dry, somewhat spicy finish. Medium body and mod carb. Pretty solid all-round.

On tap @ Blue Blazer. Pours amber with a nicely proportioned head. The nose is unusually earthy with vegetal notes too, perhaps some sweat as well. The taste is more of the vegetables, perhaps root vegetables other than pumpkin. The palate is medium bodied and textured with a clean finish. Overall, this is the first time I’ve really tasted pumpkin in a pumpkin beer as it is usually buried amongst biscuity malt and spices such as cinnamon. A valent effort but it doesn’t give me as much pleasure as the other Cromarty or Tempest beers.
