Bottle from Ben, many thanks! First batch. Pours thick black oily syrupy. Lots of ashes, roasted malts and coffee, light sweet notes of caramel. Bitter finish.

It’s pretty good though a tad light in carbonation. Aroma is roast, dark malt, toffee, graham cracker. Flavor is like nose. It’s on the sweet side but not overly done with mild carbonation and easy finish. Good beer that hides its strength.

Pours a brown-black color with a medium creamy khaki head that recedes gradually to a dense film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, chocolate and molasses. Full-bodied with flavors of slightly smokey malt, dark chocolate and earthy coffee. The finish is roasty with a malt and coffee aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Batch #2. Massive cherry-booze notes on the nose, almost like a kirschwasser mixed with a mocha latte. Makes me worry about the heat, and, to be honest, this beast still needs some settlin’ down despite being almost a year old. Still, even with the liquor burn, it hits all the appropriate Imperial Stout goals, dripping with chocolate and coffee and dark-cherry-cordial-with-raisins sweetness. The finish dries out considerably, packing in a lengthy bitterness that carries on well into the fade. Boozy, sure, but tasty too. Just could use a little more time. I need the barrel-aged version STAT.

At a tasting, thanks, small creamy muddy brown head, pitch black color, lots of chocolate and chocolate cake in the aroma, hint of smoke and sourdough dark bread, flavor of bittersweet dark chocolate, with smoke and charcoal hints and a cakey maltiness in the back. Nice but not too great.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks zvikar. Black with a tan head. Aroma of licorice, caramel, roast, a bit of ash, a bit of chocolate, some alcohol. Sweet flavor with a sourish note, with chocolate, licorice, caramel, roast, a bit of dark fruits, and some alcohol. Full-bodied.

Tap at J’s. Pours a deep brown to black with a silky beige head that lingers. Big cacao and chocolate milk nose with some dark fruit and coffee as it warms. More cacao nib, roasted malt and yoohoo chocolate drink on the palate. Chewy texture and quite satisfying. Roasted chocolate and bitter cacao on the finish, but also kind of silky smooth. Solid.

Bottle - Molasses and dark sugars. Jet black with a rich brown head. Much like its nose, sweet and dark with some sugars and a long finish with booze. Nice silky mouthfeel. Not as good as I hoped.

Tasting at Alex’s. Bottled on 24-Mar-2016. Pours an opaque almost black with a brown head. Aroma is sweet, molasses, leather, grassy. Taste is boozy, sweet, burnt malt, molasses. Just an ok IS, not more.

Bottled 3/24/16; 10% ABV
Blank color, medium brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, some chocolate, evident Band Aid. The mouthfeel is smooth, strong; the flavor is mostly chocolatey, sweet, with leather, but also too much boozyness.
Ungraceful but good.
