Scopey’s grand vertical. Thanks to Scopey. Opaque dark brown beer, good tan head. Soft rich malts. An alarming bad milk note. Tangy bitter fruits, bitter floralness. Tangy bitter finish. Bananas!

Bottle shared at Scopey place birthday tasting. Many thanks to Scopey for this one. Pitch, black coloured pour with a lasting frothy mid tan head. Aroma is meaty, black malts, soy, salty, jammy fruits. Flavour is composed of meaty glaze, honey, butter malts, dried fruits, jammy fruits. Palate is medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Little blue cheese in the finish. Weird beer.

Bottle shared in Croydon. Cheers to BenH. It pours black with a thick tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, tangy, dried fruits, tangy, dried currants, rich fruits, earth, dirty, cocoa and coffee. The taste is smooth, tangy, rich fruits, Irn Bru (or did I imagine that), milk chocolate, ashy, earth, jammy fruits, light spice, touch of alcohol and eccles cake with a dry, fruity finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Weird, but good fun!

Bottle shared in East Croydon - many thanks to BenH via Scopey. Pours deep brown with a creamy, tan head. Interesting aroma, some cocoa, dark fruits, raisins. Light to medium sweet flavor, lightly smokey, with some roast, burnt marshmallows, scorched earth, grape. Medium bodied with a vague carbonation. Scattered finish, with more raisin, bittersweet cocoa, ashy roast. Interesting. Not bad.

Bottle thanks to BenH during Free Beer Week. Thanks, Ben. Brownish black with a hint of indigo. Aroma of freeze-dried coffee, plums, cherries, liquorice and (if I’m not mistaken) a bit of smoke. Taste is bittersweet with a hit of savoury spiciness. Finish is more bitter, with a long drawn out aftertaste where the sweetness and spiciness reassert. Medium body with just the right amount of carbonation. The description says ’fruit mince porter’, but the brewer hasn’t gone overboard; rather, it’s a porter first and foremost, with a spiciness gilding the edges of an already respectable recipe.
