Brewed to commemorate An Gof the St Keverne Blacksmith who led the Cornish Revolt of 1497. An Gof was defeated in London by Henry VII's army, whilst leading the revolt against unfair taxes. He was Hanged, Drawn & Quartered on Tyburn hill but defiant to the end declared that he and his followers would share a 'fame permanent & immortal.' He wasn't far wrong as 523 years later his name lives on in this excellent ale.

Panda at home, thanks to Danlo, 12/06/22. Deep amber to chestnut brown with a light beige covering that dissipates to a swirl and edgeing. Nose is dried fruits, toffee, dates, sugars, brown bread, hint of berry fruits. Taste comprises fruit cake, brown sugar scattering, brown bread, light spice, hedgerow, toffee, dates. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close with a modest bitter edge. Respectable enough strong ... not sure why only scoring 2.87?

Palate is semi sweet, light savoury, frothy carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle from Purely Cornish. Appearance - deep copper to red. Slightly off white head. Nose - light prune and glace cherry in amongst a general caramel and cake situation. Taste - Highland toffee, prunes more so this time. Honey and raisins. Palate - medium bodied at least. Sweet nmiddle with just enough malt bitterness on the finish to just about make it drinkable. Overall - decent.
