Bottle from Beer Republic. Poured near black with a thin tan head. Milk chocolate, roastedness, tobacco and coffee. Smooth mouthfeel that turns quite dry in the finish, nice roastedness, chocolate and coffee notes. Pleasant.

Black with small beige head. Roasted aroma, coffee and chocolate. Caramely flavour, coffe and dark chocolate. Bittersweet. Solid.

355ml bottle from Elizabeth Station. Bottled on 2017-10-03. Pours a very dark brown with a dark beige head. Aroma is roasted malt with slight fruity notes. Taste is similar. Roasted malt aftertaste with some chocolate notes. Pleasant.

355ml bottle. Jet black colour with average, thick, creamy, fairly lasting and lacing, tan head. Chocolately, roasty, spicy, dark malty aroma, notes of dark chocolate, hints of liquorice, treacle, cocoa, roasted nuts, a minimally ashy, smoky touch. Taste is roasty dark malty, moderately bitter hoppy, slightly fruity, notes of cocoa, dark chocolate, blueberries with a minimally metallic touch, hints of liquorice, a minimally ashy, smoky touch in the finish. Well balanced, highly drinkable - rightly top of the style.

BLack with medium brown head. Aroma is treber some syrup. Less chocolate and caramel. Some dried leaves. Taste is dry treber with slight syrup flowery sweetness. Not so smooth. A bit perfumey. Underwhelming.

Shared by my girlfriend, who received this and another American bottle as a gift at Billie's Craft Beer Fest - what a nice surprise indeed. Export stout (according to the label) brewed in Oregon, with pale greyish beige, cobweb-lacing, initially thick and moussy but gradually dissipating head; very dark, but still translucent mahogany brown colour with warm, almost purplish-ruby hue. Aroma of melting 'fondant' chocolate, butterscotch candy, old dry liquorice, hint of ruby port, cashew nuts, subtle notes of cappuccino, pipe tobacco, burnt toast, cinnamon, raisins, figs. Dried fig-like sweetish onset, very thin but well-placed umami accent (cured meat), sourish touch as well, smooth mouthfeel, very soft with medium carbonation, rounded caramelly malt sweet middle with nutty edges, mildly bitterish toasted in the end with even a faint hint of smokiness; mild herbal hop bitterness too, but it is that molten caramel- and light chocolatey malt sweetness which lingers. Pleasant enough and a typical, not overly ambitious but in any case very correct interpretation of a foreign stout, at the right ABV and with the right amount of caramel sweetness, which most of the 'original' examples of foreign stout in the tropics also show. Well done.

Half of a 355 ml. bottle post first day of Billie's Craft Beer Fest 2017. Shared with tderoeck, received as a festival gift nice. Black, little head. Nose is poor soy sauce, vegetable, grain, thin. Bitter vegetable grainy soy sauce, roast, bitter soy sauce, thin poor vegetable roast, body is the same. Not a fan & how is this 99 overall on RB? Not to mention #7 for the style.

Clear dark brown beer, big creamy beige head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very malty, grains, sweetish. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: very malty, grains, very roasted, soft bitterness, hay, cow fodder. Aftertaste: little bitter, pretty malty, some chocolate, soft roast, bitter, malty, bit sourish, not really great. How is this a 99/99 beer? Oh well, maybe I was just not in the mood for malt juice...

Bottle at Muted Horn. Almost black with a brown head. Tobacco, leather, with dark chocolate and some roast. Pretty bitter.
