Gerboise Blanche translates from French as "White Desert Rat" and, whether intended or not, the name is apropos. In 1960, with knowledge of the perilous repercussions attributed to atmospheric testing growing (the US would cease these sorts of tests just 2 years later), the French government injudiciously began their first series of atmospheric nuclear tests. In an attempt to mimic the conditions created by the US at the Nevada Test Site, these tests were conducted in the Sahara Desert of Algeria. That parallel to NV was a wicked one so we attempt to be more principled in return by taking our chamomile & ginger infused Test Site Saison and aging it in French Chardonnay barrels. Chamomile flowers grow naturally in parts of Algeria and, while often associated with relaxation, in Eastern culture signify "energy in adversity".... how apropos.

Hazy, pale, just a thin head. Sort of thin, vinous, a little bit buggy. I’m not sold on the ferm…aiming for complex buggy wine beer but not quite getting there.

Half goblet @Able Baker Vegas. Blanche is an opaque, pale honey gold, frothier than the rouge. Orange, very yeasty, acidic nose. Over it. Orange, slightly more acid, doughy, lingering pith. Boozy. Okay.

Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Pours a clear light gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has light bread and straw with white wine and dry flora backing. Flavor has dry white wine and light sweet grains with a bit of straw and flora underlying.
