This ancient Finnish-style brew dates back to the 1500s as one of the oldest continuously brewed styles. Deep amber in color, this rugged brew’s distinctive aroma and flavor comes from aging on a bed of juniper berries. The herbal, woodsy, and ripe citrus character of the juniper enlivens a sturdy and smooth malt backbone for a fresh and flavorful brew. At Samuel Adams we love experimenting, This series of limited edition brews represents some of our favorite small batch creations.

500ml bottle. Poured a translucent amber color with a mostly white medium sized head. Aroma was malts, caramel, notes of spice, touch of citrus. Flavor was mild citrus, plenty of spice notes. Interesting.

Bottle at SPSBF. Pours a clear amber with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grain with some light fruit, especially juniper. Flavor has juniper up front with a grassy middle and some sweet bread in the finish.

Draft. Served in a pint. Light brown color, small head with good retention. Nose is spice and malt. Juniper is really an after thought and really hiding under all the spice and malt. Overall still really easy to drink. Mouthfeel is lively with lots of spice in the finish. Could drink large amounts of this

Bottle from the Folsom Whole Foods. Pours darkly ruddy with a creamy/foamy beige head. Aromas of light juniper and roasted malt. Med body. Flavor is spicy/juniper. Could use more, but it’s good. Seems to have a hint of butterscotch or diacetyl. It’s a bit malty for my taste, but there’s enough spice and herb to cover that up. Pretty tasty stuff.

Draft @ Hangar. Pours a reddish-amber with about a half-finger of khaki head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, orange and pine. Taste reflects that with the addition of juniper berries. Medium bodied with a somewhat sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, very good. I would gladly drink this again.

Sample at Gallo’s Tap Room. The beer is a deep reddish-brown color with a medium beige head that burns away steadily. Aroma of woody malt and citrus. Medium body with flavors of citrus, floral hops and caramel malt. The finish is fruity with a spice and malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle. Banana, orange, and malt aroma with a hint of juniper. Dark orange-brown color with moderate head. Mildly sweet orange malt flavor with a lightly bitter juniper finish. Not nearly as fruity as the Finnish Sahtis I’ve been able to try but still a nice beer.

Light brown color. Mild aroma of plants and malt. Flavor has lightly sweet malt, butter, and green beans, but this is very light. Mild herbal finish. I enjoyed this beer.
