They should be good men; their affairs as righteous: But all hoods make not monks. Beneath a deep blanket of snow there is a cereal grain that can survive the harsh winters and acidic soils - RYE. Like a draped hood over a monk, it is the righteousness inside that shines.

Notes from 2/06/2009. Growler from Whole Foods. A generous inch of insulation foam head even after a barely cracking a taste of it & putting the jug back till now(nearly a week later). Dirty brown runoff color; scummy lacing. Smell is bready, a little peppery. Tangy acidic hops make out the rest. A little ho-hum. A little ruff on the tongue. Foam in every sip, awesome. Strong carbonation. A quick hit of sweetness, but dominate tanginess goes blow for blow with lots of bready notes right through. Grapefruit rind closes this one out along a little bread crust. Not super complex, but with the almost inaudible alcohol, it's scary.

Slim can. Pours clear deep amber tending to hazel, medium off-white head, dissipates leaving good residual and lacing. Aroma is full of bourbon, malty, toffee, vanilla, oak, more bourbon. Flavor is medium sweet, light bitter, bourbon. Medium body. Good enough for a 6% beer, but it is not really that far from the Kentucky bourbon ale.

I like this, esp because I like barrel and bourbon flavors, and being tired of stouts, esp impy stouts, it's real nice to find a bourbon barrel aging of a different style, and one that works. This is real nice, with a good up front bourbon nose and flavor, hints at vanilla and cinnamon. Fizzy palate with a carbonic bite, which i usually don't like but here it works to cut the edge off any potential cloying sweetness, and this beer borders between sweet and semi-sweet. Looks like cream soda.

Canned (backlog). Hazy ambery brown colour with a small, but longlasting off-white head that also leaves some lace. Aroma is mildly toasted, nutty, some rye as well as quite strong on the floral and fruity side too. Flavour is ryebread, some mild toasted notes, grains as well as some mild fruity and wooden notes as well. Mellow and in a strange way this one was a sipper, but something you just wanted more of.

Pretty we’ll drinkable and great balance for a session ale. Pours hazy dark brown with great head and lacing. Finishes with medium bitterness. Some citrus. Can.
