You may have had Black IPA, but you’ve never had a Double Black Belgian Rye PA.
Cohort is a double IPA brewed with Pale, Rye, Carafa and other speciality malts that marry together with a plethora of New Worl hops and a Belgian Yeast to create something entirely unique.
The New World hops mesh together to create an intensely fruity and resinous aroma and taste. A forgiving sweetness balances the insane amount of hops used in this Belgian Beast

From 33cl bottle. Pours black with light brown foam, slightly irregular. Aroma is very interesting: bitterish from the rye, roasted from malts, herbaceous from hops. Body is medium-dense with lots of carbonation. Taste is strong and balanced between sweetness and bitterness in the beginning, with the latter winning later on. Finish is relatively short.

(Draught at Bishop’s Arms Vasagatan, Stockholm, 24 July 2012) Black colour with lasting, frothy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, liquorice, pine needles and dried fruit. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, liquorice, dark rye bread, ashes, pine needles, dried fruit, hints of yeast and an intense piney bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Solid and well made black IPA, with an impressive bitterness and a spicy Belgian touch. Very nice.

330 mml bottle tasted on the 26/11/2014. Deep dark brown to black colour with a huge bubble beige head. Aroma of licorice, dark fruits and hops. The taste is very sour with a huge presence of the licorice and the herby hops. Roasted and bitter aftertaste. Flattish palate. High carbonation. Beer not balanced. Black IPA? Next one please!

Bottle 330ml @Beer Hunters
Opaque black color, tiny beigeish head. Licorice and petrol in the nose. Light to medium bodied. Licorice caramel, burned malts, fusels and some rye. A bit flattish palate. Combination of flavors don’t work.

Bottle from Dram Shop, Sheffield. Very nearly black. Mountainous, thick, tan head. Aroma has a big hoppy, grapefruit bitterness. Sweet, dark fruit. Some dark, roast malt. Taste is all that, but toned down. Good body. Good amount of carbonation. All good stuff, but lacks balance for me. A bit like two good beers poured into the same glass.

Pours black with a small light tan head.Nose shows roasted coffee, soft pine and grassy hops and cocoa. Tempting.Harsh flavours; roasted grains, piny hops and a resounding sharp bitterness.Needs more carbonation, close to flat at the moment.
