Like the elusive spider, this beer has been waiting patiently for the past 22 months to spring forth and show its fangs! What started off as an unassuming English-style mild ale was transformed in oak barrels with the help of some wild yeast, bacteria, and time. For 19 months, this little brown ale rested in barrels, accumulating layers of complexity with each season that passed. When the time came to blend the barrels, a gallon of local Sticky Pete’s maple syrup was added. For an additional 3 months the wild yeast and bacteria gorged themselves on the sugar-rich maple syrup. The result is a delightful beer with a surprising tart bite. Enjoy now, or store in a cool dark corner and allow reclusiveness to further this beer’s mystique.

Cool bomber thanks to Craig, your rock bro! Pours a opaque brown color with a small tan head. The aroma is a big Flemish style brown ale it seems, some fruit and wood. A very tart flavor with cherries and sour plum, a bit of sweet malts shine through, very deep and complex. A great sour. Not sure what the maple does but I like it!

Another Jackie O’s beauty courtesy of markwise. Pours murky dark brown with thin tan head. The aroma is tart, brown sugar, some soured fruit and then more tartness at the end of the draw. The taste begins with a brief timid rush of malty sweetness and then quickly moving into a mixture of soured citrus fruit along with tarter lemon and lime notes. Cool brew.

Sample at One Funky Afternoon at Jackie O’s on 04/02/2011: The beer pours a dark brown color with almost plum colored highlights. Thin off-white head that diminishes quickly. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of tart fruit and sweet molasses. Medium body with a moderately sour fruit character underscored by sweet malt. The finish is fruity with a mild maple and malt aftertaste. I enjoyed this one.
