Buckden “Black” porter was first brewed for the winter 2010. Not as heavy as a stout but full of flavour with an ABV of 4.5%
Tasting notes - This dark garnet-brown beer has a welcoming aroma of biscuity malt, with a touch of liquorice and some fruit. Crisp and not too heavy, on the sweet side of bittersweet but with bitter roasted grain and contrasting fruit notes. Well roasted grain dominates the dry, bitter finish.
Some may say this is a winter drink, try it and you might want winter to stay all year round!
Dunster Beach “Dark” Porter is the same beer as Buckden “Black” Porter, but branded for the Dunster Beach holiday market. Also sold branded as The Deli - Dunster Dark Porter.

Bottle from The Deli in Dunster. Color: Almost vlack, thin beige head. Aroma: Fruity blueberry, blackberry. Roasted malt notes. Taste: Following the aroma. Very fruity for a Porter. Forest fruit, some red fruit. Hints of liquorice. Medium body, below average carbonation. Moderate sweet and moderate to over moderate bitterness. Likeable.

568ml Fles van Dunster Deli, als The Deli Dunster Dark Porter, 4.5%. De rest van de beschrijving is gelijk aan dit bier. Donkerbruine kleur, beige kraag. Tabak, bakkerschocolade, licht fruitig, rood fruit en wat donker fruit, licht gebrand, licht moutig, noten, licht zuurtje van de koolzuur, caramel. Lichte body. Smaakvol, prima bier.

Aged sample, as The Village Shop Dunster Dark Porter Huge, dense, dark beige head, virtually black beer with some reddish highlights. Typical sweetish, very burnt stout nose, rainwater. Smokey, ashy flavour. Faint liquorice, japwater , dark roasted malts with melanoidins; finish has still some restsugars. Gristslick, seems better bodied than it really is. Medium carbonation at best. Decent, certainly for its ABV (and age). Thanks to Stef!

2/3/2019. Bottle bought at St. Ives Beer Festival. Pours very dark brown with a frothy off-white to beige head. Aroma of milk chocolate, lactose, roasted malt, dark fruit and hint of liquorice. Medium sweetness, moderate roasted bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, over-carbonated for style. Not bad apart from that.

Pours like liquid mud, no head, foggy brown. Soft sweet barley aroma. Flavour is subdued spiced barley with maybe a hint of coriander. Watery mouthfeel. Rather unexciting but might be nice as a inoffensive pint.

Bottle 568ml. @ ChrisO Snow Tasting.Clear medium to dark red brown colour with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, sweet malt, light burnt. Flavour is moderate to light light heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration, dark malt, roasted, thin. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20130120]

Bottle at ChrisO Snow Tasting. It pours deep brown with a small off-white head. The nose is caramel, coffee grinds, roasted malt, faint meat and vinegar. The taste is dark fruit, wood, leather, earth, faint tartness and vinegar with a dry finish. Thin-medium body and moderate carbonation. Quite bland indeed and not loving those light vinegar notes….

Bottle at Chriso’s snow tasting 20/01/2013. Dark brown, no head. Earthy roasty farmyard aroma with a little manure. Flavour is better than aroma. Fruity soft roast some berry. Soft carbonation sweetish finish.

Bottle at Chriso Snow Tasting, thanks to Chris, 20/01/13. Extremely dark mahogony brown approaching black with a thin tan head that dissipates. Nose is dark malt, light pissy dung, toffee, hint of chocolate. Taste comprises roast malts, sugars, barley, chocolate. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry finish. Ok.
