Keg at Pelt Trader, Cannon Street, London. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a thin beige head on top. Chocolate, spice, smokey aroma. Tastes of spice, some chocolate, slightly smokey with a nice amount of chipotle/chilli at the end. Nice porter from the excellent Tempest.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Black body with a thin beige head. Light lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, wood smoke and orange. Flavour of chili pepper, espresso and chocolate. Thin body with an oily texture. Soft carbonation fizz. My spice tolerance with curry is pretty high, but not so with beer, seemingly. Too harsh and spicy for my liking.

Craft Clerkenwell. Cask. Another spiced porter - great! Opaque black - brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Light fine carbonation. Light touch of dark chocolate, a bit weak. Light tang. Whisper of dark fruits. Chilli burn starts light but goes well in to the aftertaste. Semi dry finish. Okay.

500ml bottle from cornelius, shared with jeevan. Pours dark brown with a thick tan head. Aromas of roasty malt fruit and spice, smokiness. Taste is a touch green and spicy, more malt might have balanced it out, upping the booze a tad. Seems a bit thin and burny. That said, worth a try.

Cask (handpump) @ Dean Swift, 10 Gainsford Street, London, Greater London, England SE1 2NE.Clear dark red brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dark chocolate. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long duration, dark malt, roasted, hoppy - spicy, ash notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20111229]

Aroma of soft roasted malts, soft smoked malt, some pepper in the nose
Taste - creamy fairly sweet deep dark malts, some dark fruits, nice peppery heat, soft smoke, some bitter roast in the background, nice chocolate malts, good balance, more peppery heat than the smoke which is soft
Palate - medium body, rich mouthfeel, very smooth palate. FInish as main flavour, smooth dark rich malts, soft smoked peppery burn in the finish with a slight bitter malt residue
Overall - Great beer here by Tempest, nice soft smoke and a well balanced good flavour peppery heat. One of their best.

On tap @ the Cobbles Inn, Kelso. Pours opaque black with a slim but nice head. The nose has rich aromas of coffee and tar and just a hint of the smoked chillis but you have to look for them. The taste is more of the coffee, going into treacle with again a hint of the smoked chilli thing. The palate is medium to full bodied with a big creamy texture and a finish that is sweet, though not as cloying as some. Overall, a complex beer though a pint was enough. Perhaps for a dessert occasion!

Cask at CP&K. It pours very dark brown, with a thin tan head. The nose is chipotle, paprika, smokey hint and some malt vinegar. The taste is roasted malt, the right amount of chilli (i.e. not too much), smoke, caramel, coffee, charcoal, tangy fruit, paprika and some dark chocolate. It finishes bitter, with some lingering chilli warmth. Medium body and soft carbonation. Surprisingly good, probably the best chilli beer I have had to date.

cask at bow bar ... deep black ...thin tan head ... sweet roast malts ... solid roast ... good deep chocolate ... def chipotle flavour ... wonderful ... light burn in background ... soft silky ... wonderfull body and oh so drinkable cask at blazer ... deep black ... small dark tan head .... dark malts ... light spice ... soft chocolate nose ... dark malts ... you think its gonna be a big bur astheres tons of chipotle flavour ... but in the end its all flavour litttle bite ... soft silky smooth body ... mellow and drinkable 4.2
