Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small cream head and good lacing. Some roasted malts in the nose, but not much else. In the mouth it is quite fruity and slightly sweet. Flavour has roast malts, liquorice and dark fruits. Quite a bit of ginger comes through later as well. Not bad at all.

Cask (backlog). Rubyish brown colour with a mediumsized foamy beige head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, some chocolate, mild bitter wooden and floral notes along with some ripe fruits as well. Flavour is quite similar, but is a bit strong on the roasted side. Surprisingly tasty 4.3 % beer, which did feel stronger than it actually is.

Cask at the Stan Laurel Inn, Ulverston. Dark brown, a bit of light gets through. Cream-coloured head and thick, mud-like lacing. Light milk chocolate aroma. Taste is bittersweet, with a vinegary note (this may not be in the best condition). Bitter/sour aftertaste. Not one I’d return to.
