Jai Alai, a game native to the Basque region of Spain, is played on a court called a fronton. Jai Alai players attempt to catch a ball using a curved mitt whilst the ball travels at speeds up to 188 mph! Proving they have a sense of humor the Spanish dubbed this game, with its ball traveling at race car speeds, “the merry game.” Tampa was once home to a bustling Jai Alai fronton but sadly all that remains of Jai Alai in the Tampa Bay area is this India Pale Ale that we brew in tribute to the merry game. The India Pale Ale style of beer has its roots in the ales sent from England to thirsty British troops in India during the 18th century. Pair Jai Alai India Pale Ale with beef empanadas, deviled crabs and other spicy dishes.

12 oz. Two and a half months old. Aroma is cantaloupe, lemon peel, bready. Pours hazy orange-golden with a long-lasting cream-white head and nice lace. Taste has a high pithy bitterness with some very light candy sweetness. Good. Would love to try it fresher, though.

Can from Total Wine. Slightly hazy and golden in colour, with a thin, white, head. Aroma of tangerines, pine, grapefruit and floral hops. Flavour had light, biscuity, malts, more fruit, a suggestion of green herbs and lingering, dryish, finish. Very good.

[12oz can from Total Wines, Naples, FL.] A golden amber pour with a loose cream coloured head; aroma of malt and orange with a touch of pine; citrus taste to start, then becoming more floral and with a dry finish with some astringent hops. Nevertheless a rather good IPA.

From a can, hazy deep dull orange with a thin wispy white head. Lots of tropical fruit and citrus pith hoppiness. More tropical flavors and moderate bitterenss. Smooth palate and fairly full body. Nothing jumps out, just all around good.

Keg at Brewdog Camden. Orange amber colour with small off white/beige head. Aroma is ultra fruity, peach, and tropical fruit, bit of creaminess too and a touch of spiky bitterness. Taste, little bit bitter, very fruity and a touch of biscuit malt. Bit of orange and grapefruit. Texture is very nice. Building intensity and fruit finish with a touch of sourness. Doesn't taste so different from other IPAs but just tastes much better. Very well balanced. Lovely.

Bottle from Ericandersnavy, thanks! Orange color. Melon and anis in the aroma. Pleasant hop character. Firm hopbitter flavor with ripe tropical fruit. Earthy hopbitter aftertaste with plastic notes. Well balanced.
