22 ounce bottle. Pours a pure black hue with a large beige head. The aroma is huge bourbon with lots of molasses and vanilla. The flavor is a complex beast: hot, very dry, cocoa, big bourbon, sweet candies, roast, very potent and damn good. Comes together really well.

Out of the bottle at Gourmet Haus during a tasting of all 8 2011 Eclipse series. Amazing aroma of coffee, vanilla and chocolate. Beautiful black with dark brown head that lingers forever. Some nice lacing on glass. Silky sweet flavor with chocolate and well balanced with the different barrels. Along with the 18-year from Elijah Craig, my favorite of the flight.

Bottle with Steve and the Foco BA crew (and again at Armin’s bachelor party). Deep brown appearance with a small, bubbly tan head. Slightly sharp whiskey, toffee, caramel, dark chocolate malty aroma. Fairly big whiskey, somewhat boozy, very rich caramel and toffee flavor with lots of chocolate, but quite smooth. One of my favorites of the series.

Bottle shared at RBWG 2012. Pours a dark brown and tan head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is roasted chocolate malt. Thin mouthfeel with chocolate and sweet finish. Very good Imperial stout from 50/50.

Bomber shared by Marcus. Purs very black with a few tan bubbles. Warm caramel and dark fruit aroma. Full bodied. Flavor is smooth, oaky, caramel, dark fruit and dark baking chocolate. Bourbon and vanilla? There’s so much going on that I’m not sure about those. Heat is hardly noticeable. This is a great and mellow beer.

2011 Bottle number 509. Copper Wax. Pours with a thick, nearly pitch black hued body with a medium sized, yet retentive brown head. Decent lace. Aromas are awesome! Thick, rich, a bit smokey, raisin, cola, lots of vanilla and oak. Chestnuts, brown sugar, very rich smelling with notes of tar and tobacco. Candied figs. Flavors are rich, fudge, nougat, figs, dark chocolate, vanilla, cola, caramel. A bit hotter than some of the other versions of Eclipse. A good balance of tannin in the finish. Medium to medium low carbonation, rich and warming. Full bodied and excellent. One of my favorite Eclipses behind the EC18 and probably the Pappy (although not at this moment in time).
