Can. A brown beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, bread, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and straw, leading to bitter finish.

(Draught at BrewDog Camden, London, 23 Nov 2017) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, dark chocolate and a touch of smoke. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, salty liquorice, hints of smoke and a balanced cacao bitterness in a dry finish. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty and well balanced, with a mild smoke touch. Nice one.

Can as a gift from somewhere in Glasgow. Mid- to dark brown, almost opaque with a small cream-coloured head. Enticing aroma of black olives, smoked malt, tar liquorice, babaganoush. Bitter and slightly savoury taste with astringent hop notes battling against the aggressively roasted malt. There’s a touch of sweetness in the finish. Liquorice, salted plum, tapenade in the aftertaste. Body is thin for the style but this provides some relief from the intensity. An exciting brew.
